Leave it to the Chicago White Sox to find yet another unconventional way to lose a game.
The White Sox, losers of 121 games last season and off to a 2-8 start this season heading into Wednesday’s road game against the Cleveland Guardians, seemed to be putting together a rally against All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase before the unthinkable happened.
Down 3-1 entering the ninth inning and facing Clase, the White Sox loaded the bases and looked to be in prime position to tie the game as Miguel Vargas singled to left field. The single scored Jacob Amaya and seemed to be deep enough to potentially plate Mike Tauchman (who was at second base) as well.
However, with Cleveland outfielder Steven Kwan throwing the ball to home plate, Tauchman pulled up before reaching home plate with an injury, allowing him to be an easy out and securing the win for Cleveland.
