What to know about Ex-Oyo PDP guber candidate, Yekini Adeojo who died this morning

Yekini Adeojo was a former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State who passed away on Friday.

According to sources, Adeojo died in the early hours of Friday. While the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, his passing has thrown the political community in mourning.

Politicians, friends and family have started pouring condolences on social media. Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate for 2023 election, made a post on X where the said, “I’ve just been informed of the passing of Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, a former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“Yekini Adeojo was an astute industrialist, politician, and statesman who has contributed immensely to the economy of Oyo State and Nigeria.

“He was an active political player, strategist, devout Muslim, and devoted family man. His passion for the development of the ancient city of Ibadan was resolute.

“I pray that the Almighty Allah accepts his soul and comforts his family and associates. Amin.

Adeojo, who hailed from Ido Local Government Area in Ibadan, contested the 1999 governorship election under the PDP. Before venturing into politics, he served in the Nigerian Army.

His legacy in local politics lives on through his son, Sherif Adeojo, who currently serves as the Chairman of Ido Local Government.
