Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on appointing Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new head coach following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.
Brentford are anticipating a formal approach from Spurs in the coming days, although there has been no official confirmation of direct talks between the clubs. Frank, 51, has quickly emerged as the leading candidate to take over at Tottenham.
The Danish manager is under contract at Brentford until 2027, and sources indicate it would cost Spurs over £10 million in compensation to secure his release. That figure could increase depending on the number of backroom staff Frank chooses to bring with him to North London.
Postecoglou was dismissed on Friday, just over two weeks after guiding Tottenham to a Europa League triumph, the club’s first major trophy in 17 years. However, the success in Europe failed to mask a disastrous domestic campaign that saw Spurs finish 17th in the Premier League, suffering 22 defeats in 38 games.
Frank has been widely praised for his work at Brentford since taking charge in 2018. He led the Bees to Premier League promotion via the Championship play-offs in 2021 and has since cemented their status as a stable top-flight side operating with a modest budget.
Brentford ended the 2024/25 season in 10th place, finishing 18 points and seven spots above Tottenham in the Premier League standings.
