Concerns were raised about the man’s driving and behaviour on the ferry to Southampton, where he appeared heavily intoxicated.
Upon arrival in Southampton, officers stopped the man in his vehicle.
He failed a roadside breath test, blowing 133 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, nearly four times over the legal limit of 35.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

Two large kitchen knives were also discovered on the dashboard of his van, within reach of the driver’s seat.
He was further arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
At the police station, the man provided another breath sample, which showed 149 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, again more than four times the legal limit.
The man is due to be interviewed by police tomorrow after spending a night in custody.
