A smaller crowd than for previous nights in the series were transported back to the 90s as three bands who have all previously played inside the Guildhall hopped onto the open air stage on a warm evening in Guildhall Square.
But the crowd, mainly in their 40s and 60s with many clad in bucket hats and band t-shirts, loved the chance to catch up with their retro heroes.
There was a special buzz around Cast particularly as they eagerly await the gigs of the century, supporting Oasis on their epic sold out reunion shows around the UK this summer.
Echobelly opened the evening with a set packed with their greatest hits, including Great Things, King of the Kerb and Insomniac. Vocalist Sonya Madan welcomed early fans to soak up the nostalgia as others continued to arrive ready for the later entertainment.
Cast, led by the talented John Power, followed with a feel-good set of songs including Fine Time, Walkaway and the finale Alright, bidding farewell to an appreciative crowd by telling them to ‘look after yourselves’.
They teased the crowd with a few chords of Oasis banger Live Forever, joking that Cast were going down in the world by having to ‘play with a couple of Mancs’ from next week when the long-awaited return of the Gallagher brothers kicks off in Cardiff.
We were transported back to 1999 when protest images were beamed onto screens during Profit in Peace before Simon Fowler, Steve Cradock and co. closed the show with the classic The Day We Caught the Train.
