Police launch investigation as explosion near Abuja barracks causes panic

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed an explosion near the Mararaba-Nyanya Bypass on Monday afternoon that injured one person.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement that the incident happened at about 2:50 p.m. on May 26, 2025. Police immediately sent officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to the scene.

The EOD Unit specialises in handling bombs and other dangerous explosive materials.

“The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for clearance and forensic analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents,” the statement said.

Police rescued the injured male victim at the scene, and he is now receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The police have started a thorough investigation to find out exactly what caused the explosion and what type it was.

Police told residents to stay calm and said there is no reason to panic. They also asked the public to watch out for anything suspicious and to quickly report any suspicious people or objects.
