Person hit by train near Southampton Central station

Southern Rail posted on social media at 5.58pm yesterday that a person had been struck on the lines between Southampton Central and Fareham.

Some lines were blocked between the two stations while emergency services rushed to the scene.

Southern Rail’s service from Southampton Central to Bournemouth skipped Southampton Airport Parkway and Eastleigh, until services returned to normal at around 1.50am this morning.

On social media, a spokesperson for Southern Rail said: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Southampton Central and Fareham.”

The spokesperson then confirmed that services had “returned to normal” following the “tragic incident”.

Hampshire police have been contacted for more information.
