Insider Names 2 Browns Players Who Are ‘Flying Under The Radar’

Date:

The Cleveland Browns will enter training camp with four candidates for the starting quarterback position.

Most of the talk has centered around Shedeur Sanders, even though he hasn’t gotten any reps with the first team in offseason camps.

Others argue that Joe Flacco would give the Browns the best chance to win right now, although at 40 years old, he’s not the long-term solution.

Notably, that’s why Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com believes the other two candidates are flying under the radar.

“I don’t think anybody knows Dillon Gabriel. The only thing they know about Dillon Gabriel are the few clips we’re putting out there and the Browns are putting out there on X. Nobody really knows who this young man is. Dillon’s kind of flying under the radar, and even Kenny Pickett, to a certain extent, is flying under the radar. I think from a fan standpoint, it’s more about Joe and Shedeur,” Cabot said.

As things stand, Pickett and Gabriel don’t seem to have many supporters among the media or the fan base.

Pickett hasn’t done much to prove that he can be an NFL starter, and most fans assumed that the Browns traded for him to be a backup.

As for Gabriel, heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, he was never projected to be a starter, and the narrative about his height has done him little favors.

Then again, the Browns just need to figure out the best player to take the reins of the offense, even if it’s not the most popular or the most talked-about.

The coaching staff needs to give everybody a fair shot to compete because they can’t afford to fail at the position again.
