Officers were on patrol in the St Mary’s area of Southampton on Monday when they spotted a speeding Mercedes.
The driver “seemed nervous and under the influence” and officers attempted to search the man.
But he quickly ran away down Chapel Road, making it a short distance before he was handcuffed and detained.
A search of the area by police dogs lead to the discovery of a deal bag of cocaine discarded in a bush.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “A roadside drug wipe was carried out and the male tested positive for driving with cocaine in his system.
“Due to this he was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and taken to custody for evidential blood samples.
“Even more shockingly, the male is a ‘professional’ driver who spends most of his time in control of an HGV.
“The results of the blood test will be returned in the future and the male may well end up disqualified.”
