FCT Police launch investigation into viral harassment allegation video

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media, in which a yet-to-be-identified man accuses police officers of harassment during a routine patrol in the nation’s capital.

The video, which has sparked public concern online, shows the man in a heated exchange with officers he claims belong to the FCT Police Command.

In response, the Command issued a statement on Friday, signed by Josephine Adeh, its spokesperson, confirming that the incident is under scrutiny.

According to the statement, findings from the ongoing investigation indicate that the encounter occurred on June 4, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM.

According to the police, a surveillance team attached to the Kubwa Area Command had been conducting a routine patrol around the Chikakore Bridge axis, an area reportedly under active surveillance due to increased security concerns.

‘The patrol team reportedly noticed a vehicle that had been parked suspiciously for over 20 minutes along the FO1–Chikakore Road. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers found two male occupants.

“While attempting to identify the individuals and understand their purpose in the area, one of the occupants allegedly became confrontational.

“He began questioning the presence of the officers and accused them of harassment.

“He also drew the attention of passersby in an apparent attempt to escalate the situation publicly”, ” the statement reads.

The FCT Commissioner of Police has directed that the officers involved be summoned and placed under administrative review.

The Command has assured that internal procedures are already underway to determine the facts of the case and ensure accountability.

“In the interest of transparency, the Command invites the individuals featured in the video to present themselves and give a formal account of the incident.
Their cooperation will be crucial in putting the events in proper perspective”, the statement added.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respectful engagement with residents.

It also urged members of the public who have relevant information or were witnesses to the incident to contact the Command through its Public Relations Officer.

The Command said it is working to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether police conduct violated operational standards.
