Dak Prescott has strong message about George Pickens concerns

Date:

Thus far, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott doesn’t think new wide receiver George Pickens is a troublemaker.

“I think that’s why you should never really listen to what somebody else says about somebody,” Prescott said Thursday, via Patrik Walker of the team website. “I think you should find out for yourself who they are and allow them to reveal their character to you. The guy’s been great. He’s been phenomenal.”

However, will Pickens continue to be unproblematic for the Cowboys?

On May 7, the Pittsburgh Steelers dealt Pickens to the Cowboys after the team ran out of patience with the 24-year-old wideout.

In three seasons with the Steelers, Pickens had 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdown catches, but maturity concerns often overshadowed his play.

In January 2024, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported Pickens was fined approximately $200K during the 2023 season. The figure included NFL and team fines.

He also reportedly had trouble showing up on time. Last season, he was 35 minutes late for Pittsburgh’s Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs, per The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo.

But he’s been punctual and disciplined for the Cowboys during their offseason program.

“It’s a guy that loves football, loves his teammates, and he’s been excited every day that he’s been there. He’s been early, too, so no concerns on the personal matters of G.P. or anything about it,” Prescott said. “I’m just super excited he’s on our team. He’s one of us, and he’s our brother, and he’s all about continuing to grow and making sure he’s putting the best out there; and that’s his approach.”

The WR could fill a key role for the Cowboys this season. They’ve lacked a complement for star WR CeeDee Lamb since trading WR Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in March 2022.

When Prescott had Lamb and Cooper during the 2021 season, he tossed a career-high 37 touchdown passes in 16 regular-season starts. To produce similar numbers in 2025, Prescott needs Pickens to keep maturing.
