Lanre Olutimilehin, strategic advisor at Diya Fatimilehin & Co. and founding director, Trillium Real Estate Partners, has said that collaboration remains the key factor in scaling the housing sector in Nigeria.
He therefore urged players in the built environment to build more partnerships as a means of delivering impactful projects that will scale the sector.
According to hm, the housing sector is about creating future and intergenerational transfer of wealth, which are not possible without good infrastructure and better living.
Olutimilehin maje this known in a keynote address themed, ‘Creating Livable Cities: The Future of Residential Living in Lagos,’ at the official ribbon-cutting and launch ceremony of Eko Dream Homes Phase 1, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
Citing the Singapore example, he said the built environment must design for inclusive neighbourhoods to promote social cohesion. He also urged developers to promote green housing in the real estate sector.
Olutimilehin said there is a need to build transport hubs to ease commuting within the city. He equally urged the government to straighten planning authorities to enable them carry out statutory function effectively.
“We all know, it is the dream of nearly every resident and sojourner in Lagos to own a piece of this thriving city,” Gbenga Fashola, MD/CEO, Cube Square Concepts Limited, said.
According to Fashola, the company moved into residential development about eight years ago, as a means of contributing to bridging Nigeria’s housing deficit. “We started this journey in 2017.”
He disclosed that the project is the firm’s newest residential development thoughtfully designed to embody comfort, elegance, and modern living for today’s family.
According to Fashola, the project was stalled for about eight months because of the need to get all necessary regulatory approvals from the state’s building agencies.
“We applied for and secured all necessary building and town planning before the construction. And today that diligence has paid off. We are proud to stand here, delivering this thoughtful proposal to the great people of Amuwo-Odofin local govenment of Lagos State.”
Omolola Sonowo, group head, business operation, Imperior Homes Mortgage Bank, said mortgage help in storing value.
Speaking on accessing mortgage, she disclosed that title registration takes between two and three years, and are easily transferable.
According to her, tenure of a mortgage is usually calculated based on the maximum tenure, which is 60, minus the current age of the person applying for the mortgage.
