Jack Grealish’s future at Manchester City is in doubt after the England international was left out of Pep Guardiola’s squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Despite City submitting a 27-man list, eight short of the maximum 35 allowed, Grealish was a notable absentee, alongside former club captain Kyle Walker.
All four of City’s recent signings, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli, made the cut, as did Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who returned from a knee injury late last season.
Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa for a club-record £100 million in 2021, has seen his influence wane dramatically. The 29-year-old managed just seven Premier League starts in the 2024/25 season and remained unused during City’s 1-0 FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace last month.
Still under contract for two more years and reportedly earning £300,000-a-week , Grealish’s high wages are expected to pose a challenge in securing a move away this summer.
City boss Guardiola recently warned that he could walk away if the squad size isn’t trimmed ahead of the new season. Grealish, along with Walker, is now among several expected departures.
Walker, 35, spent the latter half of last season on loan at AC Milan, but the Serie A club opted not to trigger a purchase clause.
Manchester City kick off their Club World Cup campaign on June 18 against Moroccan champions Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia, followed by group fixtures against Al Ain of the UAE and Juventus.
