The corrections officer at the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office had been charged with rape and assault and battery in December.

Domestic assault and rape charges filed against a corrections officer from Edgartown have been dropped, according to court records.

Craig Daley, 44, of Edgartown, was arrested in December and charged with rape and assault and battery on a family member, court records showed. At his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Daley’s case was closed April 11, and the charges against him were dropped, according to court records.

Daley was placed on administrative leave from his position as a corrections officer at the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office after his arrest, a department official told Boston.com. The sheriff’s office declined to comment on whether Daley will return to his position pending an ongoing internal investigation due to it being a personnel matter.

“Mr. Daley is grateful for the diligence of the prosecutors in the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office who, after looking at all the facts and circumstances, came to the conclusion that the continued prosecution of Craig on these spurious allegations was not in the interest of justice,” Robert D. Moriarty, Daley’s attorney, said in a statement. “All too often, there is a rush to judgment in these cases once the person is arraigned and his name appears in the paper. That happened to Craig, and Craig’s reputation will never fully recover because of it.”

The DA’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday evening.
