The CDC was alerted Sunday after a passenger on a domestic flight at Boston Logan International Airport required medical attention, according to officials.

Before the flight from Boston to Atlanta took off, crew members noticed a passenger who was ill and gave them initial medical assistance on board, a CDC spokesperson told Boston.com. Local officials coordinated with airline staff to escort the passenger off the plane.

The passenger was later taken to a local hospital, according to a Massport spokesperson.

The CDC then cleared the aircraft to “resume travel as normal,” and no public health follow-up was needed, the CDC spokesperson said.

To help prevent contagious diseases from spreading, cabin crews are trained to notify pilots about any ill travelers, according to the CDC spokesperson.

Officials did not immediately provide updates on the passenger’s condition.
