In a bid to strengthen safety across Anambra State’s vibrant entertainment and tourism sectors, the Anambra State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, partnered with the Ministry of Tourism to host a strategic meeting with the Anambra State Restaurant and Bar Owners Association.
The gathering, held at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka, focused on enhancing security measures along Club Road, Awka, and other key tourist attractions in the state.
Orutugu revealed findings from recent security assessments, which identified some bars and lounges as meeting points for criminal elements.
He called on business owners to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of businesses, employees, and customers,” Orutugu stated, He announcing plans for increased police patrols and enhanced surveillance to deter crime and respond swiftly to threats.
Hon. Don Onyeji, the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, commended the initiative, pledging his ministry’s full support.
He highlighted Anambra’s rich cultural heritage, spotlighting attractions like Agulu Lake, Ogbunike Cave, and the Igbo Ukwu Museum, which draw visitors to experience the state’s history, art, and natural beauty. Onyeji stressed that a secure environment is critical to sustaining the state’s tourism appeal.
The Restaurant and Bar Owners Association welcomed the police’s proactive approach, pledging to immediately implement the directives issued during the meeting. The association’s commitment reflects a shared goal of fostering a safer environment for businesses and tourists alike.
The meeting saw the attendance of key figures, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel, Assistant Commissioner of Police (State Intelligence Department) ACP Tochukwu Umeh, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security (Anti-Cultism) Hon. Kingsley Ezika, alongside senior members of the association.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its dedication to fostering open communication and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure a secure and thriving state.
