Fire in Foundry Lane in Southampton

Date:

The blaze at a workshop erupted in Foundry Lane this afternoon just before 4pm.

Firefighters put out the blaze by 6.19pm and as of 7.30pm were dampening down. Crews are also giving community safety advice.

Several fire engines were called to the incident with social media users saying they heard “mini explosions”.

Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Botley and Fareham stations attended along with a support appliance from Portchester and headquarters in Eastleigh.

The cause is thought to have been an accident.

One witness told the Echo: “As I walked along Foundry Lane, Freemmantle, Southampton at 6.30pm tonight, the road and pavement was cordoned off with a few fire appliances at the scene and what looked like something wrapped up in blue on the road, in front of one of the fire engines.”
