James Varol appeared before Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday.

The 24-year-old faced a single charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in relation to an incident in Sarisbury Green on June 4.

Police were called to Montefiore Drive shortly after 3am that day after a pedestrian was hit by a car which did not stop at the scene.

The victim, a 38-year-old man, was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
