Right fielder Wilyer Abreu continues to be an unexpected hero for the Boston Red Sox this season.
On Sunday, the Red Sox hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in a doubleheader. The first game went to extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Abreu entered the batter’s box with runners on first and second.
Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Fernandez threw a 95 mph four-seam fastball on his first pitch. Abreu then singled off the Green Monster at Fenway Park, sending Boston third baseman Alex Bregman home, sealing a 5-4 win for the Red Sox.
