Manchester City advanced to the Carabao Cup final this season after eliminating Newcastle United in a two-legged tie. Pep Guardiola’s set to face their rival title Arsenal for a shot at lifting the Carabao Cup trophy at Wembley.
Man City Beat Newcastle Again to Reach Carabao Cup Final
Taking a comfortable 2-0 lead from the first leg, Guardiola’s men are keen on avoiding an unwanted episode as they play the second leg against the Magpies at the Etihad. Despite their rather disappointing league form so far in 2026, City have been performing level in the cup, and they showed it again this midweek as they went 1-0 up after just 7 minutes through Omar Marmoush.
Marmoush doubled Man City’s lead in the 29th minute, before Tijjani Reijnders basically sealed his team’s win in the second leg with his goal three minutes later. Newcastle couldn’t do much, but they did manage to pull one goal back in the second half through Anthony Elanga.
The convincing victory sealed City’s dominance over their opponent in that two-legged semifinal as Guardiola’s men won 5-1 in aggregate. A win that set the Citizens up for an intriguing final against Arsenal at Wembley.
