Tensions are running high in Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) as the Lagos State local government elections approach. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing internal crisis over Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa’s attempt to impose preferred candidates on the area.
Obasa’s move has sparked widespread discontent among loyal party members, who feel sidelined and disrespected by the top-down approach. These grassroots mobilisers have been instrumental in the APC’s past victories, but now they’re questioning the party’s internal democracy.
If Obasa’s actions aren’t reversed, the APC risks facing internal disunity and electoral defeat. Disgruntled party members might abstain from voting or even support opposition candidates.

To salvage the situation, Obasa must retract his steps and allow a fair and open democratic process to determine the party’s candidates. He must respect the voice of the people and ensure that the most popular and competent candidates emerge through transparent primary elections.
The future of the APC in Orile Agege hangs in the balance, and it’s imperative that the party prioritises internal democracy and the will of the people.
