A fire in Wareham Friday left one person dead and another seriously injured, officials said.

The Wareham Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 8:40 p.m. on April 11 at 101 Kimberly Court, according to a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. They arrived at a mobile home fully engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, with the incident commander striking a second alarm to bring additional personnel.

Firefighters rescued one person with serious injuries, who was transported by Wareham EMS for medical care, according to the statement. Firefighters located a second person in the home who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“On behalf of the Wareham Fire Department, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the family that lost a loved one and a home last night,” Wareham Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Haskell said in the statement. “This is a terrible tragedy for them and our community.”

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes, protecting nearby trailers from catching fire, the statement said. One structure sustained radiant heat damage.

The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated.
