Totton: Council following procedures as travellers in Eling

A spokesperson from the local authority has now told the Echo that it is “following legal procedures” and “liaising with police” as it takes action against the unauthorised camp.

Yesterday, Councillor Neville Penman, county councillor for Totton North and Netley Marsh, told the Echo that officers from the council had been up to the site that evening.

On Facebook, Councillor David Harrison posted last night: “Despite all the efforts to secure Eling recreation ground, we have another visit by the travellers this evening.

“The Town Council are aware and usual procedures are in place to deal with it.”

Similarly on social media last night, Councillor Richard Young said: “I have proactively liaised with both the Parish Chairman and Clerk and been assured that all reasonable and proportionate measures to secure Marchwood’s public open spaces have been taken Totton and Eling Town Council are aware of this unauthorised encampment upon public open space under their control.”
