The MBTA is testing new Charlie Card fare vending machines along the Orange Line.
If you’ve spotted the new Charlie Card fare vending machines at Orange Line stations, you can look but can’t touch — yet.
The new card system will allow riders to reload their Charlie Cards with cash value and passes online and at the new machines. Transit officials say the upgraded payment system will improve rider experience.
The Orange Line was the first to get the new silver and blue fare vending machines. The T plans to roll them out to all other stations in the future.
“As we continue to upgrade our fare system, we’re installing new fare vending machines (FVMs) beginning on the Orange Line & then expanding. For now, new FVMs are for testing only & riders should continue to use existing FVMs to buy & reload fare products,” T officials wrote Wednesday on X.
Transit officials are seeking volunteers to help the agency test the new system, according to the MBTA’s website. Riders interested in trying out the new machines can fill out a recruitment survey online to be considered.
