He has all the luxurious at his feet as he has worked hard to achieve all the name and fame. But here’s a story of a filmmaker who gifted a Rolls Royce to Amitabh Bachchan and why.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra revealed an episode from Eklavya days. The filmmaker shared that he gifted Amitabh Bachchan a luxurious Rolls Royce after the shooting of movie Eklavya. He also narrated a funny story about Jaya Bachchan warning Amitabh Bachchan. He said that Jaya Bachchan had told Amitabh Bachchan that he won’t be able to tolerate Vidhu Vinod Chopra for more than a week. He added that Jaya Bachchan’s prediction came true but Amitabh Bachchan did not leave the film. The filmmaker added, “But because he did not leave and completed the whole film, I gifted him a Rolls-Royce worth Rs 4.5 crore, because he tolerated me and did great work in the film.”
That’s not all. Vidhu Vinod Chopra also narrated how his mother reacted to him gifting Rs 4.5 crore worth car to Amitabh Bachchan. He said that his mother slapped him when she got to know the price of the car. He shared that she complained that he gifted a car to Amitabh Bachchan whom she called ‘lamboo’ but didn’t buy for himself. Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared that he had a Maruti van and no driver. The filmmaker then said, “I told her I would buy a car; there is time. She responded, saying, ‘11 lakh ki toh hogi (It must be worth Rs 11 lakh).’ And I laughed because she didn’t know that it was Rs 4.5 crore. I told her the cost, and she slapped me, calling me ‘bewakoof.’ I will never forget that, because what is money if it can’t give you joy.”
