THIS Bollywood star worked with Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda and other stars. Dilip Kumar gave him two films and he was later ignored by the film fraternity during his final days.
Today, we are talking about a Bollywood actor who was a visionary writer and became an acclaimed comedian and character actor. He entered the industry along with ‘Angry Young Man’ Amitabh Bachchan. Can you guess who it is?
We are talking about Kader Khan who inspired others with his life story. He was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, on October 22, 1937. Kader Khan was a Sunni Muslim and an ethnic Pashtun of the Kakar tribe. Kader had three brothers, Shams ur Rehman, Fazal Rehman and Habib ur Rehman. His family moved from Kabul to India and was raised in the Kamathipura neighborhood of Mumbai. He used to stay in a slum with his family. Kader was a brilliant student and after he graduated in civil engineering, he started his career as a professor. He used to teach students Saboo Siddik Polytechnic College for five years. Kader served as the first president of the Old Students’ Association (OSA) at the same institution.
Did you know, that Kader got a call from Dilip Kumar who offered him two films. When he used to teach students, he did a play ‘Taash Ke Patte’ and comedian Agah noticed him. Agah told Dilip Kumar about Kader. Then, Dilip Kumar offered Kader Khan Sagina and Barang by the Karma actor.
Rajesh Khanna gave him a break as a dialogue writer in his film Roti. He wrote dialogue for his films including Maha Chor, Chhailla Babu, Dharam Kanta, Fifty Fifty, Naya Kadam, and Masterji. He even wrote the script and screenplay for films like Himmatwala, Jaani Dost, Sarfarosh, Justice Chaudhury, Farz Aur Kanoon, Jeeo Aur Jeene Do, Tohfa, Qaidi and Haisiyat.
He was among few writers who worked in two rival camps, Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra. Kader played an important role in Amitabh Bachchan’s career and also wrote dialogue for several of his films, including Mr Natwarlal, Khoon Pasina, Do Aur Do Paanch, Satte Pe Satta, Inquilab, Giraftaar, Hum and Agneepath.
Did you know, Kader made Govinda a star and told him to record his voice and listen to it several times to correct his diction? Govinda was unable to have a clear diction and had a habit of speaking fast. Govinda and Kader Khan went on to become everyone’s favoruite jodi. Govinda, Kader Khan, and Shakti Kapoor were called ‘Trimurti of comedy films’. Govinda was ignored by the film fraternity during his final days. In 2014, Kader moved to Toronto due to health reasons and he suffered from supranuclear palsy, a degenerative disease. He passed away on December 31, 2018, and his son Sarfaraz admitted that Bollywood forgot his dad and his closest friend Govinda did not care to inquire about them.
