Tom Cruise, known for doing death-defying stunts in the Mission: Impossible series, reveals what he eats for breakfast before doing such stunts.
People love death-defying stunts in movies and enjoy watching them. However, 62-year-old action star Tom Cruise continues to thrill audiences with his daring stunts in the latest Mission: Impossible film. So, what’s his secret to staying youthful and energetic? The actor has finally spilt the beans, revealing that a substantial breakfast is key in fueling his death-defying performances.
Recently, in an interview with PEOPLE, Tom Cruise has finally revealed that he eats a “massive breakfast” before stunts such as hanging off a biplane in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
The actor said, “The amount of energy it takes — I train so hard for that wing-walking. I’ll eat sausage and almost a dozen eggs and bacon and toast and coffee and fluids,” the actor revealed, adding, “Oh, I’m eating! Picture: It’s cold up there. We’re at high altitude. My body is burning a lot.”
Cruise also shared that he’s been fascinated by wing-walkers – performers who stand and jump between biplane wings – since childhood, and has always wanted to emulate their daring feats. “I remember seeing old footage of wing-walking. Those aircraft were only travelling at, I don’t know, 40, 50 miles an hour. This aircraft is up to over 120 miles an hour. Going out there, I was realising that it takes your breath away” he added.
Tom Cruise is known for his death-defying stunts, continuing in the new Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning. The movie features underwater sequences, hanging off a plane and many more, pushing physical endurance.
The Final Reckoning also features a tense, extended underwater sequence that once again sees Tom Cruise pushing the limits of physical endurance. The actor, known for doing his stunts, credited his aviation background for helping him prepare for the challenging scene, which involved limited oxygen and a unique transparent face mask instead of standard scuba gear.
Tom Cruise said, “You’re not going to feel as connected to the character if I had a regular mask and mouthpiece,” Cruise explained. “Fortunately, from flying jets, you train for hypoxia and carbon dioxide buildup. You start to understand how your body is reacting, so I knew when to stop.” Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning will be released in theatres on May 23.
