Here’s a throwback to 1987 film Sindoor that turned out to be a major box office success despite clashing with Mithun Chakraborty’s commercially successful film.
Currently, everyone is talking about Operation Sindoor. The move by Indian Armed Forces has received thunderous applause as it has served justice following the Pahalgam Terror Attack. The operation has also brought back focus on a major Bollywood film titled Sindoor that created quite a stir at the box office. It was in 1987 that the film starring some of the biggest names of film industry made it to the theatres. It was the remake of Tamil film Unnai Naan Santhithen. It was an Independence Day release and it worked wonders at the box office. Not just the story, fans also applauded the performances of the top stars. So here’s everything that you need to know about the movie Sindoor that worked despite clashing with a Mithun Chakraborty movie.
Sindoor released on 14th August 1987. The star cast included big names like Jaya Prada, Shashi Kapoor, Govinda, and Neelam Kothari in the leading role. Apart from the leads, the film had a strong names in supporting roles. Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Asrani and Aruna Irani played pivotal roles in the film. If that was not all, superstars like Jeetendra and Rishi Kapoor were seen in special cameos in Sindoor.
The story of the film revolved around a couple. It was about a man named Vijay Choudhary played by Shashi Kapoor who suspected that his wife Laxmi played by Jaya Prada was having an extramarital affair. He forces her to leave the house. Later, when he learns the truth, she goes missing. Years later, Vijay and Laxmi come face-to-face. And then it is all about Vijay’s efforts to reconcile with his family.
The movie directed by K. Ravi Shankar was produced by A. Krishnamurthy. Upon its release, it clashed with Watan Ke Rakhwale that starred biggies like Dharmendra, Sridevi, Mithun Chakraborty, Sunil Dutt, Moushumi Chatterjee and many more. Despite the competition, Sindoor became one of the highest grossing movies of that year.
