Teenager arrested following incident on Shirley High Street

The 14-year-old from Southampton was held on suspicion of assault after a group of youngsters reportedly caused antisocial behaviour in a shop on Tuesday, June 3.

The teenager has been released on bail while investigations continue.

PC Tom Byrne, who covers the Shirley area, confirmed he and others will be patrolling the area over the coming weeks, and encouraged anyone with concerns or questions to speak to police.

He said: “We were called to an incident on Shirley High Street where there was a group of youths causing anti-social behaviour within one of the stores.

“Through enquiries, a 14-year-old from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of assault. They remain on bail whilst enquiries continue.

“We will be out and about in Shirley over the coming weeks on patrol, so if you do have any concerns or questions, please do feel free to speak to us.”

This arrest follows a spate of antisocial behaviour on the Shirley High Street. A number of arrests and dispersal orders have been made in recent weeks.
