Teenage terrorist plot youth moved to NHS unit in Calmore

Nathan Ruth, who can now be named after turning 18, was jailed for seven years in 2024 after being convicted of plotting an attack at the Isle of Wight Festival.

The Muslim-convert extremist has been transferred from Feltham Young Offenders Institute to Bluebird House NHS mental health unit in Calmore, Mail Online has reported.

The offender has repeatedly attacked prison officers since being in custody, including trying to slice one guard’s ear off.

A leaked intelligence report reveals he has a history of improvising weapons and intends to kill a prison officer, according to Mail Online.

Ruth was caught after a tip-off from the FBI.

He was planning to attack people he believed had insulted Islam and had shared terrorist publications with others.

The boy developed an “Islamic extremist mindset” in late 2021 and repeatedly researched the Isle of Wight Festival in June 2022, according to prosecutor Serena Gates during his court case.

His internet search terms revealed searches of the Isle of Wight Festival entry points and he discussed his plans with others online.

He also looked up weapons, vehicles and stab vests, and obtained a knife by July 2022.

After dismissing the festival as a target because he did not have a car or other vehicle, the youth drew up plans to stab people who worked with him at a specialist education provider.

Five tutors who worked with him became concerned about his developing beliefs.

Before his case went to trial, he assaulted two custodial workers at a secure children’s home, at the beginning of June 2023.

Since then he has continued his reign of terror – targeting those working to keep him safe in custody.
