Southampton and Eastleigh bin collection times change

Eastleigh Borough Council announced the change while a yellow heat health alert was issued yesterday, but the warning has since been elevated to amber status.

The local authority is therefore asking all residents to put bins out either the night before, or by 5.30am that morning.

Southampton City Council has also announced “early bird collections to beat the heat”, asking residents to put bins out by 5am on collection day.

Eastleigh will see a peak of 30C tomorrow with temperatures of 25C, 26C and 26C expected on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday respectively.

The temporary change is now in effect.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are temporarily starting our waste and recycling collections at 5:30am.

“This will allow our crews to complete their work before the hottest part of the day.

“Please ensure your bins are out either the night before or by 5:30 am.”

Several Eastleigh residents branded the change “a good idea” on social media.
