Last week’s alleged Tesla vandalism is one of many reported in recent weeks.

A Weymouth man is being charged for allegedly keying a Tesla in a Hingham parking lot last week, officials say.
On April 1, a man reported the alleged damage to his car that occurred at the Derby Street Shops parking lot, according to a statement from the Hingham Police Department.
The Tesla owner said he noticed scratches on his 2021 Tesla Model Y on the driver’s side front, rear door, and rear quarter, the statement said.
Last week’s alleged Tesla vandalism is one of many reported in recent weeks, including incidents in South Boston, Dedham, and near Northeastern University. The targeting of Teslas has been linked to the public’s dislike of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency, which a Boston.com poll found has impacted readers’ view of Tesla.
Due to the widespread vandalism of other Tesla vehicles, the car’s owner said he started activating the car’s onboard security video system which showed a man scratching the driver’s side of the car, police said.
Authorities have identified the individual, 50, who is being summonsed to Hingham District Court on the charge of vandalizing and defacing property.
The man’s arraignment date has not yet been set, the statement said, and his name is not being released because he has not been arrested or arraigned.
