Soludo unveils second-term vision: Smart cities, rail network, tourism, others

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has outlined an ambitious blueprint for his second term, focusing on large-scale infrastructure, digital innovation, healthcare, and youth empowerment, as he seeks re-election in the Nov. 8 governorship election.

Soludo, in a statement on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, emphasised that his next term would consolidate the achievements of his first tenure while scaling up transformative projects aimed at making Anambra a green, liveable, and prosperous homeland.

Among the flagship projects he announced are three new smart cities: Awka 2.0, Next Onitsha, and the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC). These developments are designed to redefine urban living, boost economic activity, and enhance sustainability across the state.

In healthcare, Soludo plans to establish a comprehensive Oncology Centre to combat Nigeria’s rising cancer burden, complementing the state’s growing telemedicine infrastructure. He pledged real-time digital access to medical consultations for residents in both urban and rural areas, ensuring that “every life must count.”

Transportation will also take center stage with the rollout of the Anambra Transport Masterplan, featuring a state rail network, dualized Trunk A highways, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, and digital ticketing. The goal, according to the governor, is to increase productivity and ease movement while reducing environmental impact.

Soludo also promised to unlock Anambra’s tourism potential through the development of Ogbunike Caves, Owerre-Ezukala Waterfalls, and Agulu Lake into eco-tourism hubs with supporting infrastructure and security. The upcoming Marriott Hotel in Awka is expected to boost the state’s hospitality and business tourism sectors.

Education and youth empowerment will be supported through the launch of a comprehensive bursary scheme for Anambra students, aimed at ensuring no student is left behind.

“With his second-term vision, Governor Soludo is not just promising continuity but a dramatic leap forward in transforming Anambra into a model state,” Aburime said.
