Simon Ekpa likely to be deported for supporting Kanu, says witness

A prosecution witness, identified as PW-AAA, told the court on Friday that Simon Ekpa is likely to be deported from Finland to Nigeria to face trial over his support for Nnamdi Kanu and the agitation for the Republic of Biafra.

The witness, whose real identity was withheld for security reasons, made the statement during cross-examination by Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN.

Earlier, the federal government had presented additional items recovered from Kanu, which were admitted as exhibits by the court.

The items include a black laptop, two multi-mix transmitters, a mini white Apple iPad with a pouch, a grey Apple iPad with a pouch, a grey MacBook with a pouch, a grey MacBook with a case, a mini drone sound wave speaker, and two mini white speakers.

Additional items tendered as evidence include a large computer mouse, a white adaptor, a laptop adaptor, and a carton bag containing a laptop.

Also presented were two 3G modems, two Glo modems, one Glo Huawei modem, one MTN modem, one Etisalat modem, a flash drive, and a camcorder.

Other items admitted include a hand recorder in a black pouch, a MacBook Pro adaptor, a microphone stand, a pair of Phillips headphones, a Sharp radio microphone with cord, a Pro Sound microphone with cord, and a 4G LTE modem.

Further items recovered from Kanu include a bunch of cards, a power adaptor for a mixer, an Easy Blaze white modem, a Samsung phone, a black Motorola phone, and a Nokia phone.

Also found in his possession were a black Samsung phone, an additional black phone, a D-Link black modem, an 8GB flash drive, an extension wire adaptor, a pair of shoes, a belt, a pair of Cedarwood sneakers, and another item of footwear.

Other items tendered as exhibits include one black Softech wristwatch, two singlets, one sealed Hermes perfume, a trinket, a bottle of Pokham perfume, a Fredrick Peckham wristwatch, a Diesel wristwatch, an Alexander Christy collection wristwatch, and a Club wristwatch.

Also presented were bank MasterCards, various documents, a copy of an IPOB complimentary card, documents labelled IPOB, one white clipper, a bottle of medicine, an Oman perfume, a mini bottle of scented oil, and an empty black purse.

A Nigerian passport bearing the name Okwu Kanu Nwannekaibeya Nnamdi Ngozichukw was recovered, including a British passport bearing Okwu Kanu Nwannekaibeya, a black purse, a passport holder, a card holder, a box containing a Rocarden wristwatch, and four bundles of cords.

During cross-examination, PW-AAA confirmed that no weapons were recovered from the IPOB leader during his arrest in Lagos.

He also stated that no arms were found on the woman who was arrested alongside Kanu.

While acknowledging that the recovered items may not be inherently offensive, the witness emphasised that the defendant’s intention behind possessing them could suggest otherwise.

PW-AAA further testified that he did not personally analyse any of the seized items, explaining that his role was limited to effecting Kanu’s arrest and obtaining his statement.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the proceedings until May 6, 7, and 8 for continuation of the cross-examination.
