Police have taped of Milton Road at its junction with Berkley Avenue and dozens uniformed police officers can be seen past the cordon as well as several police vehicles.

One resident was watching television when she was told to evacuate by police.

She told the Echo: “We were just told to get out. We have seen armed police, the dog handler, the negotiator, a mental health team.

“We can’t even get to our cars to take the dogs anywhere. I am glad they have evacuated us, otherwise it would have been scary.”

It is understood that police have supplied the evacuated residents with bottled water.

The police cordon on Milton Road The police cordon on Milton Road (Image: NQ) A fire engine is also parked further up Milton Road with a spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue adding: “A crew from St Mary’s are assisting partner agencies at the scene of an incident within a domestic premises on Milton Road, Southampton.

“Firefighters were called at 10:22 this morning and continue to work with police and ambulance teams.”
