Ogun-based Remo Stars have been crowned champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side clinched their maiden NPFL title with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Niger Tornadoes at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday.
In a tense match filled with missed chances, Olamilekan Adedayo emerged as the hero, firing home the decisive goal in the 84th minute to spark wild celebrations among the home fans.
Remo Stars made history as the first privately owned club to win the NPFL title since Udoji United achieved the feat in 1996.
It also marks the first time a club from the South West has lifted the title since the now-defunct Julius Berger FC triumphed two decades ago.
The Ikenne-based club now sit top of the NPFL standings with 68 points from 35 matches, holding a commanding 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United, who have 58 points from the same number of matches.
With three games remaining, Remo Stars’ victory has mathematically secured their place as champions, completing a historic season for Ogunmodede and his squad.
