Real Madrid have completed the signing of Franco Mastantuono, the youngest player to ever feature in a competitive match for Argentina, from River Plate.
The Spanish giants triggered the 17-year-old’s €45 million (£38.5m) release clause, setting a new transfer record for the Argentine club.
“Real Madrid C.F. would like to announce that Franco Mastantuono will join the club for the next six seasons, from 14 August 2025 to 30 June 2031,” a statement from Real Madrid website reads.
Mastantuono, an attacking midfielder, has become a regular for River Plate’s first team over the past two seasons and made headlines as the youngest goalscorer in the Superclásico against Boca Juniors.
Last week, he made further history by becoming Argentina’s youngest debutant in a competitive fixture, coming on as a late substitute in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Chile.
His six-year deal with Madrid will officially begin on 14 August, the day he turns 18.
Mastantuono becomes Real Madrid’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool and Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.
