City officials unveiled the latest addition to its public art program on April 22, a sculpture called “Reflections” that its creators said epitomizes the essence of Dunwoody.
The installation, at Dunwoody’s five-acre Two Bridges Park located off Perimeter Center East, cost $25,000 and was funded using hotel/motel funds left over from the construction of the park.
The park also features the city’s first splash pad, a playground, small and large first-come first-serve pavilions, restroom facilities, exercise equipment, and trails. Two Bridges ties into the Dunwoody Trailway and the Georgetown area via pedestrian bridge over the North Fork of Nancy Creek.
Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Coordinator Andrea Perez, who co-designed the public art with Atlanta sculpture artist Huelani Mei, said the large “D” was originally going to contain several colors, but the design was changed so children could see themselves and the greenery around them in its reflection.
Mei was also the creative force behind two installations at Brook Run Park, “Grounded Growth” and “Grounded Gathering.” She has pieces of public art installed in Cumming and Canton, and several traveling exhibits.
Her newest exhibit “Forest Forms: Woodland Wonders” will debut at Atlanta Botanical Gardens’ Gainesville location in Georgia on June 7, according to her website.
