The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has announced the disbursement of ₦8.6 billion as another instalment of pension arrears to 148,625 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), following the ₦32,000 pension increment approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2024.
The payment, which cuts across all four departments under PTAD: Police, Civil Service, Parastatals, and Customs, Immigration and Prisons, was confirmed in a statement signed by Olugbenga Ajayi, Head of Corporate Communications at the Directorate.
According to the statement, the disbursement is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to settle outstanding arrears resulting from the second pension increment announced in July 2024. The first increment, a 20/28% raise effective from January 2024, had already been fully paid earlier by PTAD.
A detailed breakdown of the ₦8.6 billion payment is as follows: ₦5.7 billion was paid to 59,342 eligible pensioners under the Parastatals Pensions Department (PaPD), and ₦2.3 billion was disbursed to 71,084 pensioners under the Civil Service Pensions Department (CSPD).
₦310 million went to 9,579 pensioners in the Police Pension Department (PPD), and ₦276 million was allocated to 8,620 pensioners in the Customs, Immigration and Prisons (now Correctional Service) Pension Department.
Tolulope Odunaiya, Executive Secretary of PTAD, while announcing the disbursement, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Federal Government to the welfare of senior citizens.
She emphasised that the payment represents the government’s resolve to fully settle all outstanding pension arrears and continue implementing reforms aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Odunaiya also assured pensioners that PTAD remains dedicated to transparency, prompt service delivery, and the effective implementation of all government directives relating to pension welfare.
