Painting of F1 Champion Nigel Mansell donated to museum

Renowned artist Anthony Lawrence’s depiction of Mansell was gifted by his family.

The painting, originally created for the book ‘Champions’ in 1992, becomes part of a special display commemorating 75 years of Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championships.

The exhibit, featuring nine iconic F1 cars and a simulator, runs until November 2, 2025.

Senior curator Gail Stewart-Bye said: “We are delighted to have Anthony Lawrence’s work in our exhibition—it seems a very fitting location to have the dramatic motorsport portrait on display.”

Anthony Lawrence’s daughter, Sara Lawrence said: “There is no more perfect home for this painting than the National Motor Museum.

“We as a family are absolutely thrilled that motorsport fans can enjoy the portrait as part of the museum’s displays.”

Anthony Lawrence’s retrospective exhibition will also be showcased at the Palais des Vaches gallery in October.
