Opposition coalition against Tinubu will fail, says APC chieftain

Date:

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has declared that the ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to form a coalition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection bid in the 2027 general elections are doomed to fail.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), dismissed the coalition as a desperate move by aggrieved politicians seeking to revive their fading political relevance.

He advised notable opposition figures, including former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State Governor, to abandon the “already failed project” and instead support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Over the last seventy years, the Nigerian political landscape has witnessed numerous attempts at coalition-building, often driven by a desire to consolidate power and challenge dominant parties.

” However, history has consistently shown that these coalitions rarely succeed. So, forming a successful alliance in Nigeria requires more than just shared opposition.

“It demands unity, strategic compromise, and long-term cohesion.

The motives must be altruistic, not parochial, not selfish, and they must embrace the management of peace and conflict, which are paramount and essential.

” But critically looking at the ongoing coalition against the president, those involved are only interested in using the platform to revive their failing political careers,” he said.

He described the current coalition as a “mere gathering of aggrieved opposition leaders” whose interests are primarily self-serving rather than focused on national development.

“The questions Nigerians should ask these coalition leaders are: why form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu?. If they are the ones in power, can they do anything better than what the president is doing?

“But because of their greed, hatred for the President, and the desperation to clinch power by all means, they are now running from pillar to post.

“If the present administration has engaged and patronised some of these personalities with juicy appointments, they would be on the front line singing and praising the same government they are castigating now. But the truth is that Tinubu is the master of the game, so they will fail as usual,” he said.

Oyintiloye urged Nigerians to scrutinise the motivations behind the coalition, questioning whether its proponents would have done any better if they were in power.

“The truth is, if the present administration had offered juicy appointments to some of them, they would be the ones praising the government today, but because of their greed, hatred for the president, and desperation for power, they are now running from pillar to post,” he said

He argued that President Tinubu has demonstrated strong political acumen and resilience, particularly during the 2023 general elections, when, despite significant opposition and not being in power, he emerged victorious.

Oyintiloye called on opposition figures, particularly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to redirect their energies toward supporting the president’s developmental agenda, which, he said, is already yielding results across key sectors.
