Oil marketers, traders trying to frustrate Tinubu’s reforms, says Dangote

Date:

Aliko Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, has accused certain oil marketers and traders of attempting to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s economic restructuring efforts.

Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa after meeting with President Tinubu on Monday, Dangote clarified that his recent comments about fighting “cabals” in the oil sector were not directed at the new leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

“The cabals I referred to are some major oil marketers and traders who were bent on frustrating the efforts of President Tinubu in revamping the nation’s economy,” Dangote explained.

The business magnate, who on May 1 stated he was still fighting for the survival of his $20 billion refinery, expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the new NNPC leadership in addressing his company’s needs.

Dangote said his visit to the President was primarily to commend him for assembling a capable leadership team at NNPC, specifically praising the appointments of Bayo Ojulari as Group Chief Executive Officer and Ahmadu Musa Kida as Non-Executive Chairman.

“We are confident that this team will address systemic challenges, align with the President’s vision of a $1 trillion economy, and reposition NNPC Limited for operational excellence and long-term sustainability,” he stated.

According to Dangote, the new management brings substantial technical expertise and managerial experience necessary for revitalizing the national oil company. He highlighted that recent activities and structural reforms initiated by NNPC demonstrate “a renewed emphasis on transparency, efficiency, and accountability.”

“The calibre of individuals at the helm, and their deliberate, reform-driven agenda, demonstrate a commitment to fostering a culture of performance and professionalism,” he added.

Dangote expressed optimism that the new NNPC leadership will transform Nigeria’s energy industry and reaffirmed his group’s commitment to supporting “the collective vision of a prosperous and energy-secure Nigeria.”
