NAFDAC seizes ₦350m worth of expired, fake products in Kano

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has seized expired, unregistered and unwholesome food and cosmetic products valued at over ₦350 million during a crackdown across Kano metropolis.

The agency in a post on X said it intensified enforcement efforts in response to growing concerns over the proliferation of unsafe food and cosmetic items in local markets. The agency said a three-day operation was carried out in response to petitions from concerned citizens at Singer Market and several major supermarkets across the Kano metropolis.

The joint operation, led by the directors of Investigation & Enforcement and the North-West Zonal Office, resulted in the seizure of large quantities of expired confectionery, beverages, and unregistered goods, many foreign products lacking English labelling, a requirement under Nigerian regulations.

NAFDAC confirmed that investigations are ongoing and urged members of the public to report suspicious products or vendors to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that only safe, quality-regulated products are sold in Nigeria.
