Liane Hewer first joined M&S in 1985 as a seasonal sales assistant at the Southampton High Street store.
Her starting role in the menswear department was the beginning of her lasting dedication to customer service.
In 2000, when the store moved to its current location at West Quay, Liane transitioned to the lingerie department.
Her warmth and expertise in the role make her a valuable asset.
Her commitment to the company inspired her son to join M&S for a part-time position while at college.
Liane’s 25-year service anniversary remains a cherished memory where she, alongside her husband, was invited to the London support centre to celebrate.
She said: “I was invited to the support centre in London to mark my 25 years with M&S, and I brought my husband along too.
“We met other long-serving colleagues and even had the chance to meet the chief executive – it was such a special and unforgettable experience.”
For her 40-year achievement, Liane was honoured with a celebration by her colleagues.
She received a gold pin badge, a gift card, a certificate signed by M&S CEO Stuart Machin, and a bouquet of flowers.
Reflecting on her journey, Liane said: “I can hardly believe it’s been 40 years – it’s flown by.
“I still remember spotting the job ad in the paper and thinking, ‘That’s something I’d love to do’.
“I’m so glad I went for it.
“Over the years, I’ve made lifelong friendships and met so many wonderful customers.
“It’s the people – both colleagues and customers – who make this job so special.”
Kerry Mansell, store manager at M&S West Quay Southampton, praised Liane’s dedication.
She said: “Liane is an incredible asset to our team.
“Her dedication, kindness, and experience make her a key part of the team and make a lasting impact on other colleagues.”
The M&S West Quay Southampton branch, located at 23 Harbour Parade, boasts a team of 120 employees.
