We are talking about Shekhar Suman who starred opposite Rekha in 1984 and worked with Bollywood superstar actresses including Madhuri Dixit, Padmini Kolhapuri and Dimple Kapadia. He romanced with these heroines, but still could not get the fame he needed The actor worked on several projects but was considered a flop star. He then managed to re-establish himself in cinema.
He played a strong role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi and everyone started talking about his comeback. Did you know, Shekhar once worked as Madhuri Dixit’s driver and used to pick and drop her from her house to film sets? Suman’s first film Utsav featured some big names on the industry. He even starred in a film opposite Rekha and the movie was produced by Shashi Kapoor and directed by Girish Karnad. As per reports, the actor did not try hard to grab the role.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, the actor said, “It was probably the most incredible opportunity for any newcomer in Indian cinema. Within just 15 days, I was signed for the film, barely unpacked my bags and then just two months later, I found myself shooting with Rekha. I will always be grateful to Shashi Kapoor, Girish Karnad, and Rekha.”
Suman also said that before Utsav, he was acting in another film titled ‘Manav Hatya’ with Madhuri Dixit. Due to its low budget, the actor would often pick up and drop the actress at her shoots on his bike. The actor failed to gain fame in the industry after most of his films flopped around 1989. He then turned to TV and found success. He became a household name in the TV industry and worked in many shows. He started his talk show named ‘Movers and Shakers’. Suman faced a lot of hardships in his life and worked hard to get success. Shekhar belongs to a Bihari Kayastha family and married Alka Suman on 4 May 1983. The two are parents to a son Adhyayan Suman, a Bollywood film actor. Their older son Aayush, died of a heart ailment at the age of 11.
