The 39-year-old midfielder, regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, brings with him a glittering resume.

He also led Croatia to the 2018 FIFA World Cup final and remains the nation’s most-capped player.
Backing the vision and ambition
In a statement, Swansea City described Modric’s involvement as “an endorsement of the club’s ambition and vision.” His role as co-owner is expected to significantly raise the club’s profile both on and off the pitch.
“This is an exciting opportunity,” Modric said. “Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level. I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and help build an exciting future.”
Financial injection in challenging times
Modric’s investment arrives as Swansea continue to navigate financial headwinds. The club reported a pre-tax loss of £15.2 million in the most recent financial year—an improvement on the £17.9 million loss from the previous year—on a turnover of £21.5 million.
Club CEO Tom Gorringe praised Modric’s commitment. “I am excited that Luka has come on board. There is no better role model in the game. He has shown genuine passion and knowledge about the club, and his support will be instrumental as we aim to improve both on and off the pitch.”
The Swansea City board added, “From our first discussions, it was clear there was alignment in vision. Luka is a true asset to our group, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Swansea.com Stadium soon.”
Still active as a player, Modric has made 45 appearances and scored four goals for Real Madrid this season. His involvement with Swansea City is expected to draw global attention as the club continues its push to return to the Premier League.
While promotion may be a long-term target, Modric’s arrival undoubtedly injects fresh optimism into the club’s ambitions and inspires belief in a brighter future.
