…assures of credible poll
Ahead of forthcoming council election in the State, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASEIC) on Monday met with stakeholders in Ikorodu Division of the State, assuring them that the preparation was ongoing to have credible election.
LASEIC has fixed July 12, 2025 for the conduct of Coucil election in the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
The Commission said the stakeholders meeting was necessary, so that it could interact and hear from the people about the conduct of the election and suggestion could be taken on having hitch-free exercise.
Speaking at the event, Bola Okikiolu Ighile, a retired Justice and LASEIC Chairman, said the State has 19,325 Polling Units, which are more than double of the 8,000 Polling Units used in the Council election in 2021.
The retired Justice said the sensitisation and stakeholders engagement, would be held in the Five Divisions of Lagos, to carry everyone along and create awareness about the July Council election.

She said the Commission had employed different strategies to create awareness about the election and was collaborating with security agencies, while assuring that the exercise would be free and fair on election day devoid of violence.
She advised Lagosians and residents to visit the INEC portal to register and get their voters card, so they can vote on election day.
“It is part of our preparation for the election we are meeting stakeholders and you have heard our jingles in the media, you would soon see our billboards.
“We want eligible voters to know that it is their rights and they should not sell them. We are also telling them what the Commission is doing, we want to hear from the people.
“That grassroots information is very important and we can assure the people that all in place to have a smooth election”, she said.
The guest speaker at the event, Noah Jinadu, said Council election is crucial to deepen democracy and development at the grassroots and implored Lagosians to come out on election day to exercise their civic duty.
Jinadu expeessed optimism that the Commission would conduct an acceptable election since it is putting in place adequate facilities needed.
He further noted that the success of the electoral process was a collective duty of all.
“You can see that they have things in place for the success of the election, it is for the people to come out on election day and vote. It is collective task and we must all join hand with LASEIC”, he said.
Also speaking at the stakeholders meeting, Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu kingdom, said the stakeholders meeting had given people of the Division opportunity to get more information about the conduct of the Council election.
The tradition ruler, stressed that the people of the town would come out in large numbers to participate in the election, promising to mobilise residents.
Adekoya Abiodun, Council leader in Ikorodu North LCDA, said the Council election is crucial to sustaining democracy, while noting that just like in the past, the election would be a success.
“Our people are waiting for your election and we the leaders too have responsibility to tell residents to come out and vote on that day”, he added.
