Kogi govt offset N98.8bn debt in 15 months – Commissioner

The Kogi State Government says a total debt of N98.8 billion has been liquidated since coming into office 15 months ago.

Ashiru Idris, Commissioner for Finance, stated this on Monday while breifing journalists after the EXCO meeting held at the Council Chambers, Government House in Lokoja, adding that the debts so far paid off included those dated as far back as the regime of Ibrahim Idris and 50 billion bailout fund granted the Administration of Idris Wada.

He said, “So far, this administration under the leadership of Ahmed Usman Ododo has liquidated a total 8f N98.8 billion inherited from the previous administration of Ibrahim Idris and the 50 billion salary bailout granted Captain Idris Wada administration”.

Idris equally said that this feat was achieved due to the significant increase in the internally generated revenue.

“This in turn was made possible through the proactive efforts of the Chief Servant of our dear State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, who has given the Agency, Kogi State Inland Revenue Agency, charged with the responsibility of enhancing the State revenue, a mandate to boost the State’s revenue”, he noted.

Earlier, Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information, had outlined significant achievement in terms of infrastructural development, including the construction of perimeter fencing around the State-owned Confluence State University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara following the security breach experienced on the campus last year, adding that the establishment of Climate Change Agency would address the impact of climate change in the State.
