Juan Thornhill will not be returning to Cleveland, and the reasoning runs deeper than typical roster moves.
The Cleveland Browns safety earned the unflattering nickname “Jog Thornhill” from frustrated fans following a controversial play during a 35-14 loss to New Orleans last November.
That moment essentially sealed his fate with the organization.
The 29-year-old defender has found a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers, joining Cleveland’s biggest rival for the 2025 season.
Thornhill made his intentions clear about facing his former team.
“But they’ve definitely got to see me two times a year. I’m excited about that opportunity,” Thornhill said.
Thornhill appeared in 22 games across two seasons with Cleveland before making his departure.
Earlier this offseason, he stirred controversy with a social media post that many interpreted as a shot at the Browns organization.
While he has since clarified that no genuine animosity exists, his motivation to prove himself against Cleveland remains evident.
This scenario mirrors Patrick Queen’s approach when he faced the Baltimore Ravens last season.
Queen delivered a crucial play that helped Pittsburgh secure a victory against his former team. Thornhill wants to follow a similar path.
However, the Browns present a significantly different challenge than the team that finished 3-14.
Cleveland has been actively rebuilding its roster and strengthening its foundation. The organization has moved far beyond that disappointing campaign.
With Thornhill’s comments circulating, expect Browns players to bring extra intensity when these division rivals meet.
The AFC North rivalry will feature added personal stakes when Pittsburgh visits Cleveland in Week 6 and hosts the Browns in Week 17.
Last season, these teams split their season series, with Cleveland winning a snow-filled contest at home.
