Jeremy Renner has revealed the mistake that led to his near-fatal snow plough accident.
The Marvel actor was rushed to hospital on New Year’s Day in 2023 after being crushed by his own 6.35-tonne snowcat and breaking more than 30 bones.
Now, in a excerpt published by The Times from his upcoming book, My Next Breath: A Memoir, Renner shared a “tiny but monumental slip of the mind” ended in horror.

Renner and his nephew Alex were clearing snow that had fallen outside the star’s home.
At one point, the Mayor of Kingstown star couldn’t see his nephew from the driver’s cab so went to check.
“‘Before exiting the driver’s cab! – Apply parking brake,’ the manual says. But I didn’t engage the parking brake, or disengage the steel tracks,” the actor recalled what went wrong in the moment.

“In that moment – an innocent, critical, life-changing moment – that tiny but monumental slip of the mind would change the course of my life for ever.”
The actor saw his nephew “was in danger” as the snowcat began to slide towards him.
Renner then made the decision to try jump back into the cab to press the stop button.

“My feet lost their grip on the moving tracks, and I never made it to the cab,” he said.

“In that split second I was catapulted off the spinning metal tracks, arms flailing.
“I arced over the front of the tracks, propelled forward, down on to the hard-packed ice, where my head hit the ground hard and instantly gashed open.”
The actor recalled the “terrible crunching sounds” as the vehicle moved over his body. 
In January 2025, Renner marked two years since the near-death accident.
In an Instagram post, the actor said he was ringing in his ”second ‘ReBirthday'”.
